My First Bus

My First Bus
This is the story of how to choose the seats on the bus in Washington in my experience. On a bus in Washington, the front part is the driver, who is in the front left corner of the bus and to the right of the driver is a machine for collecting the fee for the bus’s fare and then the entrance. In the back of this part is a long bench both right and left sides, and then four connecting seats per each side. In the middle, there are two seats on both sides. After this part, the two connecting seats are set in four rows per each side. In the back, there is a long bench, whose shape is like the letter “U”. My first day on a bus, I sat in the front, close to the driver. There is one guy who sat beside me. He is a heavy set tall middle -aged Asian. He was looking around the bus and repeating words two or three times. Suddenly he asked me about my shoes and tried to touch my feet. I felt scared and uncomfortable. I saw the sign on the last seat window that said “For disabled people”. After that I quickly moved there and he didn’t follow me. I learned that I should observe everything in order to protect myself from this new city and the people that travel on the city bus.

  1. I think it is a strange story. I wondered to know why he try to touch your feet.?
Sometimes there are no available seats on the back, so you have to set there.

  2. I realized the bus rule in Seattle for the first time after I had read your article. I sometime sit the seat, but I have never been done like that by someone. You were unlucky.

  3. The story is so funny. There are so many things which is natural in America but is not natural in other countries, so I sympathize with you.

  4. What did he ask about your shoes? I can't believe that a stranger would do this on the bus, maybe you understood the wrong meaning about that action.

  10. I agree with you. Since the bus is not the same as in Japan, this s difference made me confused. I realized front seat is safer than back seat, so you should sit around there.

  11. Sometimes, I don't know how to choose the seat on the bus here. Therefore, I often go to the back seat of a bus to sit. However, it is not easy to let the bus driver know to open the back door when there are many people in the bus and I need to get out from it. (=..=|||)
